Survivor-01-Chapter 4 Lin Xianxian-[03] (part-1)

Zhang Shang was gasping for breath, his mouth opening and closing like a dying fish struggling to breathe. It took him a long time to produce any sound from his constricted throat.

Ye Fei covered his mouth in time before he could scream like a chicken being slaughtered.

A grown man, shaking like a sieve under his hands.

Ye Fei lowered his voice and reminded him:

"Calm down, if your scream brought her in, we'll all die again."

Hearing his words, Zhang Shang regained some sense, trying hard to take deep breaths to calm himself down, forcibly swallowing back the scream in his throat.

The peephole on the door was still a blur of darkness.

The person outside the door hadn't left, the shadow in the crack swayed rhythmically with the movements of its owner.

The dormitory auntie seemed to be in a good mood as she hummed an off-key pop song behind the door. The intoxicated yet out-of-tune singing echoed in the pitch-black night, which was particularly creepy.

Ye Fei let go of Zhang Shang and wiped his hands on his clothes in passing.

He lightened his footsteps, preparing to return to his bed, but before he took two steps, he heard the sound of a heavy object falling behind him.

"Thud——"

Ye Fei instinctively looked back, only to see Zhang Shang frozen in place. Looking down, there was a toppled wooden stool by his feet, most likely knocked over accidentally when he moved without attention.

Ye Fei closed his eyes and frowned, unable to bear the sight.

The humming outside the door stopped abruptly.

After a pause of two or three seconds, the room was filled with the deafening sound of pounding on the door, interspersed with the dorm auntie's heavy breathing.

"I knew it.... someone's still not asleep! OPEN THE DOOR!!!"

Zhou Zhengning, still sitting on the small stool, shuddered in fright. He instinctively looked towards Ye Fei, about to ask what to do and if he needed to fight, but the next second, he heard Ye Fei say a quick  "good night", and then the man sprinted to his bed at lightning speed, kicked off his shoes, jumped onto the bed, wrapped himself in the quilt and pretended to be dead.

The whole set of actions was done in one smooth motion.

Zhou Zhengning was dumbfounded. He glanced at the door that was about to be knocked open, and hurriedly followed Ye Fei's example, returning to his bed and lying down.

Zhang Shang was even more flustered. His bed was the farthest away, and he even lost a shoe halfway. Just as he covered himself with the quilt, the door of the dorm room was kicked open. The faint light coming from the door crack suddenly elongated, along with the bulky shadow of the person outside.

Zhang Shang lifted his eyelids slightly, staring at the slowly moving black shadow on the ground, and swallowed.

The sound of slippers dragging on the floor was extremely clear, scarping against his eardrums with each step.

Soon, a pair of red plastic slippers entered Zhang Shang's field of vision, along with a pair of pale, swollen legs.

He saw those legs stop by Ye Fei's bed. The dormitory aunt bent her waist very low, almost as if she was pressed against the quilt. After a long time, she straightened up and went to Zhou Zhengning's bedside.

When the dormitory aunt walked towards him, Zhang Shang closed his eyes tightly.

He tried to keep his breathing even, but the sound of slippers getting closer and closer stepped on his heart. His heart pounded uncontrollably, causing his breathing to tremble as well.

Finally, the sound of slippers stopped.

Zhang Shang heard a very faint sound of fabric rubbing, accompanied by the stiff creaking sound of human bones as if moving after being rigid for a long time.

"Crack, crack.... crack"

The dormitory aunt, like a component that had clicked in place, stopped moving.

She wasn't breathing, but Zhang Shang could smell the strong fishy stench coming from her body.

Zhang Shang felt as if she was sticking to his face because her laughter rang right by his ear.

She opened her mouth and asked in a very light voice:

"Good child, are you asleep?"

As she opened her mouth, an indescribable odor hit Zhang Shand's face.

It was like the stench of a decaying corpse, rolling into Zhang Shang's nostrils wave after wave.

He almost retched, but his strong survival instinct made him forcibly suppress the rising physiological reaction.

After asking the question, she stared at him, seeing that the good child had no response. The dorm aunt finally straightened up and left, satisfied.

The sound of slippers dragging became more and more distant, and finally, with a "bang," was shut out behind the door.

Ye Fei opened one eye, watching the shadow outside the door completely disappear before stretching out his body curling up on the small bed, and changing to a more comfortable position.

At the same time, he heard the simultaneous heart-wrenching retching sounds from the other two people in the room.

"Damn... this even comes with biological attacks, I almost couldn't hold it in... ugh."

Zhou Zhengning leaned over the edge of the bed, still in shock.

Although there was nothing in his stomach to throw up, he felt like all his internal organs were trying to get out.

He rubbed his hair, taking a while to recover. After a moment of blank staring, he suddenly realized that the person on the opposite bed hadn't made a sound from start to finish.

Zhou Zhengning was stunned for a moment, thinking that Teacher Ye might have fainted from the stench. He looked up, only to find that the man seemed to be fine, lying on the bed with his legs crossed, flipping through the ranking list.

Zhou Zhengning's voice was still a bit weak:

"Teacher Ye, you're okay?"

"Huh?" Ye Fei lazily dragged out his voice, and when he realized what he was saying, he casually replied:

"Oh, I covered my nose with the blanket, and didn't smell anything."

"Why?"

"Well... I don't expect monsters to wash and spray perfume during their work breaks."

Is this what they call foresight?

Zhou Zhengning sighed inwardly.

He flopped back onto the bed, looking at Ye Fei opposite him, and remembered the half-finished elementary math problem:

"Teacher Ye, can we turn on the lights to do homework now?"

"Better not, in case it comes back for another round. Worst case, we can make it up when we get up for breakfast tomorrow. There's still time."

Ye Fei swung his legs, still studying the ranking list on his information bracelet.

Zhou Zhengning noticed and asked:

"Are you looking for someone? Just flip to the top, there's a search bar, and you can input names directly."

Ye Fei casually swiped on the light screen:

"Nah, just browsing randomly, seeing if there are any old acquaintances."

"Acquaintances?" Zhou Zhengning propped up his head to peek at his light screen, pouting:

"The first rank is one, isn't it?"

"?" Ye Fei went back to the top to confirm, his voice carrying a hint of amusement

"Oh, Ye Fei? That's indeed an old acquaintance, haha."

"No, no, I'm used to saying it that way. Before you came, he was always ranked one. Now he's been pushed to second by you. Look, look, the one right under your finger, Jian Lingzi"
