Survivor 01 Chapter 1- 【Loading…】
Zhou Zhengning woke up in a classroom.
In his dream, he missed a step, and as his whole body shook uncontrollably, his knees hit the bottom of the metal desk, making a dull "bang" sound.
He struggled to get up from the table, and tried to straighten his legs under the desk—the desks and chairs in this classroom were a bit too short for an adult, and he felt a little aggrieved when he curled up inside.
Probably because of the dream, he broke out in a cold sweat. His temples ached, his ears were filled with a sharp humming, and the images in front of him were all blurry double images. The tables, chairs, and benches were all blurred together, making it difficult to see clearly.
It took a long time for his tinnitus to subside, and the shadows in front of his eyes eventually merged into a clear image.
The classroom he was in was empty, with tables, chairs, and benches arranged in an orderly manner, cartoon patterns painted on the walls, and a whole wall of small red flowers for recording. It looked like an ordinary elementary school classroom.
Besides him, there were four other people in the classroom:
Two girls were sitting in the group against the wall, one had a high ponytail and was sitting with her legs crossed, frowning slightly, and seemed not to be easily messed with. The other was pale and thin, with her head down. Zhou Zhengning didn't know if it was his illusion, but he felt that the girl seemed to be trembling.
On the other side, a man in a plaid shirt was sitting in the group by the window. The man met his gaze, looked him up and down with an extremely harsh look, and then looked away.
There is another one…
Zhou Zhengning looked to his left.
A man lay on the seat across the aisle from him, seemingly asleep. Zhou Zhengning couldn't see his face clearly, only his messy black hair could be seen.
The man was thin, and the skin on the half of his arm exposed under his short sleeves was a sickly white as if it hadn't seen the sun all year. There were slightly protruding blue blood vessels visible on his forearms, and scars that looked like stitches ran all the way from his forearms, over his distinct wrist bones, extended to the back of his hands, and finally stopped at the slender well-defined fingers.
Zhou Zhengning's eyes fell on the scars on the man's arm, and he was momentarily stunned.
The next second, his eyes went dark, and the light in the classroom was cut off. When it came back on, the space was filled with a gloomy red light, the walls, blackboard, tables, and chairs were all painted with that disturbing layer of scarlet.
According to Zhou Zhengning's experience, he knew that they were currently in the loading space of the "game copy".
He didn't know how he was pulled into the game. In short, since the supernatural beings(humans with superpowers?) began to be oppressed by the so-called "orthodox humans", their status has become increasingly low. Zhou Zhengning just went out to buy instant noodles one day, but he was inexplicably pinned to the ground while walking on the street. He was told that his ability monitoring ring had signs of damage and that he had rebellious tendencies. Before he could explain, he was tied up and thrown into prison by a dozen strong men from the White Tower.
Later, he carefully checked and found that the "signs of damage to the ring" that made those guys so angry were just a small scratch caused by his ring.
In fact, life in the prison was actually quite good. Food and drinks are delivered every day, and there is no need to worry about being caught for accidentally doing something wrong one day.
Zhou Zhengning enjoyed it at first, until one night, while he was sleeping soundly, three or five heavily armed enforcers suddenly broke into the cell and gave him an injection without saying a word. After Zhou Zhengning was knocked out, he was already in the game when he opened his eyes again.
What is this game?
-he had no idea.
How to get out?
- don't know that either.
Zhou Zhengning only knew that failing to clear the level would mean certain death. He also knew that their in-game broadcast would simultaneously be broadcasted to the outside world for those noble "orthodox humans" to watch, and they could open a bet and use it as a pastime to relieve boredom.
This model always reminded Zhou Zhengning of certain underground arenas: the players kill each other fighting with their lives to make the sponsors laugh.
Of course, those players were a little better than them. The players in the arena have money to earn, but they have nothing and could only try their best to survive. If they died, their death and ugly appearance would only become a joke for others to relieve boredom.
Zhou Zhengning sighed in his heart.
He glanced at the man next to him once more. The man seemed to be sound asleep, not budging an inch from the beginning.
Zhou Zhengning had played the game once or twice before. He knew that while waiting for the copy to load, the game system would release some basic information. It would be very troublesome if important information was missed.
With the mentality of being a fellow wanderer, Zhou Zhengning reached out and patted the man on the shoulder:
"Brother, wake up, get ready to enter the game."
But the man didn't react at all. If his chest hadn't been rising and falling with his breathing, Zhou Zhengning would have thought he was dead.
"You don't even know whether you can survive, and you still care about others?"
Seeing his actions, the man in a plaid shirt next to him said something sarcastically. Zhengning glanced at him. Although he felt a little uncomfortable listening to what he said, he didn't pay much attention to him.
The man spoke so loudly that everyone in the classroom could hear him.
The girl with the high ponytail on the other side frowned at the man, then snorted coldly, and rolled her eyes in disgust. while the thin girl seemed to be frightened by the sudden loud voice, and she trembled exaggeratedly.
【Ding—】
At this moment, the broadcast radio in the classroom made a sharp and piercing sound.
The noise lasted for a few seconds before it stopped, and then it was replaced by a chaotic "sizzling" sound of electricity.
【Game refresh, copy loading—】
【Location: Lujiang No. 3 Primary School】
【Main NPC: Lin Xianxian】
【Rating: C】
【Number of people: 5 people】
.......
【Player entry is now underway—】
【Loading the Ranking ——】
【935, Chen Nuo】
Zhou Zhengning subconsciously glanced at the group leaning against the wall. The pale and thin girl lowered her head even more, and the player information bracelet on her wrist also lit up when the system announced her name.
【892, Zhang Shang】
【160, Zhou Zhengning】
【051, Qin Jing】
Hearing this, Zhou Zhengning was a little surprised.
For a C-level copy, the girl's ranking of 51 was already very high, and the order of entering players is always from low to high. If there is no problem with this game system, then there is only...
After reading Qin Jing's name, the system froze for a long time and did not continue reading.
Qin Jing was also a little surprised. She frowned and looked back at the man thoughtfully.
At this time, the system finally resumed operating, and the cold mechanical female voice sounded:
【Ranking refresh completed—】
【001—】
"?"
Hearing that number, Zhou Zhengning was dumbfounded.
Zhou Zhengning stared at the sleeping brother with wide eyes, and suddenly felt that the back ofhis head had become noble.
The one ranked first is a nightmare for all players, but... did that person break the heavenly law and was sent to the C-level dungeon?
Zhou Zhengning's heart was turbulent, but before his inner turmoil could finish, the name following the number was thrown down:
【—Ye Fei】
...Ye Fei?
Zhou Zhengning was sure that 001 was not called this name.
But this name was definitely not unfamiliar to him.
At the same time, other people's gazes on Ye Fei also became complicated. There was doubt, scrutiny, and hatred.
Zhou Zhengning's brain pushed him the memory of "Ye Fei" at this time.
Zhou Zhengning only knew one person named Ye Fei who could rank first, and after an incident, that person's position between orthodox humans and superpowers/supernatural beings was delicate and awkward, and he was an existence that neither side wanted to mention.
{T.N: yall, should i go with superpowers or supernatural beings? do tell}
Zhou Zhengning had met him once before. At that time, Ye Fei was still a generation of genius with arrogance, he was completely different from his current destitute and scarred appearance.
In the beginning, there were rumors that Ye Fei was imprisoned in the deepest prison by the people of the White Tower and became a dangerous experimental subject whose life was worse than death.
After doing the math, it seems that it has indeed been five years since he heard the news about Ye Fei.
【Player information loading is complete. Please wait patiently for the copy to load and do not leave the loading space.】
After the game system finished its last sentence, the classroom fell into silence again.
"Damn, what a misfortune to meet the God of Plague here, It seems that we haven't been harmed enough outside, so we have to let him in to continue to cause harm..."
Zhang Shang habitually said something sarcastic, but the second half of his sentence got stuck in his throat after he noticed Ye Fei's movement.
Ye Fei was originally lying on the table, and he slowly got up from the table after the game system finished talking nonsense.
His hair was naturally curly, messy when not carefully groomed, and long enough to almost cover his eyes. A pair of lifeless eyes were hidden in the shadow of his hair, with deep dark circles underneath and some bluish stubble on his chin.
His skin was very fair, with a kind of morbidity perhaps due to lack of sun exposure, and there were some suture-like scars around the exposed skin. He was also thin, with excellent bone structure. All in all, he looked good but depressed, like a beautiful zombie or some medieval vampire count.
.....Anyway, he didn't look like a normal person.
Zhou Zhengning looked at his side-profile and felt a little nervous for no reason.
Zhang Shang, who was just sarcastic, was just as nervous as him. He thought Ye Fei was asleep, so he dared to speak like that. Now that he knew that his words might have been heard, he was afraid that Ye Fei might retaliate against him.
After all, the game copy does not restrict players from killing other players. No matter how much he hates Ye Fei, he can't ignore the fact that he ranks first in overall strength.
If Ye Fei wanted to kill him, it would be as easy as crushing an ant.
But Zhang Shang seemed to think too much, as Ye Fei seemed unconcerned about his earlier offense.
He appeared to be in a daze, just sitting on the small chair, lost in thought for a while, and then yawned lazily.
"?"
The tension in Zhou Zhengning's heart dissipated along with Ye Fei's yawn.
... Dissipated, but not completely.
Because in the next moment, he saw Ye Fei stand up from the chair.
He kicked the short desk in front of him, passed Zhou Zhengning, and walked straight ahead.
In the loading space, one cannot move freely, and the system has also emphasized this point just now. Zhou Zhengning didn't know what he wanted to do, but he looked at Ye Fei, hesitated for a moment, but still reminded him:
"Ye... Teacher Ye, you can't move around here freely, you should come back."
But upon hearing his words, Ye Fei didn't respond, nor did he turn around.
Zhou Zhengning only saw him raise his hand and shake it weakly twice, which probably meant-
"Don't worry about me".
Seeing him like this, Zhou Zhengning also stopped talking.
He observed Ye Fei walking to the podium with some uneasiness, and then slowly turning a corner and heading straight for the classroom door.
Everyone in the classroom followed him, and when they saw him touch the doorknob of the classroom door, even Qin Jing, who had been frowning silently, couldn't hold back and said in a bad tone:
"Hey! sto-"
But Ye Fei didn't stop because of her warning.
He simply turned the door handle and pulled the door open, as if he were going to go out.
But everyone knew that this was impossible.
The moment he stepped out, Zhou Zhengning saw his body leaning back slightly due to inertia, and at the same time, a line of blood ran from Ye Fei's forehead straight through the back of his head, and penetrated the window glass on the other side.
The sound of glass shattering was heard.
After a brief pause, there was a muffled sound of a heavy object hitting the ground.
The classroom door closed automatically, leaving only a corpse on the ground.
Ye Fei's eyes were half closed, partially blocked by his hair. A pool of blood spread on the ground behind his head, which was even more eye-catching under the red light in the room.
The cold system prompt sound appeared again:
【Player 001- Ye Fei was detected trying to leave the loading space, violating the rules, and the system will erase him】
【Ding——】
【Player 001 Ye Fei's life is reset to zero】
【Confirmed death】
【Ding——】
【The copy has been loaded, and the game is about to be logged in. I wish all players...】
The game system froze for a moment before uttering the second half of the sentence:
【Happy game!】
